Tooth loss has a significant impact on your overall quality of life. Not only does it affect your smile, but it also affects your abilities to eat and speak. When you think of replacing missing teeth, dentures are often the first thing that comes to mind. While dentures have been used successfully for many years, they are not for everyone. Many denture wearers find their replacement teeth cumbersome or uncomfortable. They may find that, despite many adjustments, their dentures just never seem to fit right. If you currently wear dentures, Aspire Implant Dentistry Center can help you to find a more comfortable, more natural-looking replacement.
Removable Implant Anchored DenturesRemovable implant anchored dentures, sometimes called removable overdentures, consist of false teeth that snap or clip into place on dental implants, providing support for your replacement teeth instead of your gums. These types of implants are used when there has been a bone loss in the jaw, and the bone is unable to support the implants necessary for regular implant supported dentures. 2 to 5 dental implants are placed toward the front of the jaw, where there is naturally more bone mass. A bar is connected to each of these implants, and this is what your replacement teeth attach to. These implants help to create additional bulk, which can help to fill out your lips and cheeks. They are also less expensive than regular implant supported dentures. The replacement teeth need to be removed nightly for proper cleaning.
All-on-4 Treatment ConceptAll-on-4 dental implants are another option that is available if you have lost bone mass and might otherwise be considered ineligible for regular implant supported dentures. Instead of the 6 to 8 implants typically used, your replacement teeth are supported by four strategically placed implants. Two of the implants are placed toward the front of the jaw, where there is naturally more bone mass. The other two implants are placed toward the back of the jaw, one on either side and are inserted at a 45-degree angle. This angle helps to maximize contact with bone, increasing fusion and stabilization. In the upper jaw, this angle also helps to avoid piercing the maxillary sinus cavities (and helps to avoid the need for a sinus lift). All-on-4 provides a non-removable alternative to dentures that helps you to avoid the need for a bone graft.
Implant Anchored DenturesImplant anchored dentures rely on 6 to 8 implants placed within your jaw. These types of implants are used when you have sufficient bone mass remaining in your jaw and continue to help you maintain the integrity and strength of the bone. The replacement teeth that are provided are affixed to the implants permanently with screws. Your teeth are supported on the implants, rather than your gums, which helps to provide a more comfortable solution. Because your jawbone fuses with the implants, you are provided with a stable support network that avoids the embarrassment, and the pain, that is associated with slipping dentures. Instead, you are left with a beautiful, permanent smile, and no one will be able to tell that your teeth are not real.
