The Many Things You Get During a Dental Exam

There is more to a dental exam than just a look at your teeth and gums. It gives you the opportunity to not only make sure the obvious parts of your mouth are healthy, but also the less obvious ones.

If you haven't been to see your dentist in the last six months, schedule an exam with them today to get these perks for your mouth!

Why You Should Get Exams Like Clockwork

When your dentist is doing an exam, they are looking at more than the health of your teeth and gums. They are also looking at your neck to see if the lymph nodes in your neck are swollen.

They are also looking around the inside of your mouth for signs of lumps, odd tissue formations, or discoloration of your tissues. These are all signs of bigger problems, such as cancer.

Your dentist is also looking for signs of plaque and cavities on or in your teeth. Plaque can build up where you won't necessarily see it, but your dentist will. He or she is also going to check for signs that your mouth is getting gum disease.

The sooner gum disease is caught and treated, the healthier your mouth can return to being. Your dentist is also checking the formation of your jaw during an exam. They look from the outside, but also from the inside by way of x-rays.

A dental examination is a very thorough process and it helps your whole body stay healthier, not just your mouth. If you haven't seen your dentist within the last six months, it is time to go in and have them take a peek around your mouth. There are far too many reasons to go in and see your dentist regularly, for you to miss an exam.
